Over the past several months I have been talking with single Christians (at least 50). Specifically, I am asking the tough questions, "Do you date non-christians?", "What is your expectation for dating and intimacy?", "How does your faith fit in when choosing someone for your relationship?" I have been surprised to find that most men and women have very worldly views when it comes to dating and they have no problem dating an atheist or someone from another religion, they want someone with a Christian belief but not a Christ following lifestyle, there is an expectation that sex will be part of the relationship, and many are willing to lay aside their beliefs in order to get the guy or girl they want.
If a person can't stand on his/her faith when it comes to considering a life partner, then will they stand firm for anything? What ramifications do you see down the road for these decisions in our society?
Happy blogging!

If people don't stand firm in their faith with life partners then they are more likely to slip further away from God. As they continue to make decisions without God's direction then this can cause an inaccurate perception of Christianity to the world.
ReplyDeleteI think my view on this has definately changed as I got older and become stronger in my faith. I personally am looking for someone with a stronger faith than me, who would expect for intimacy to be saved for marriage and who would have the same view as God towards marriage and how husbands and wives are supposed to treat and love one another. Why would any woman not want a man who would love her like Christ loves the church??? By the way if you find this person...send him my way! LOL
ReplyDeleteGood points you two! I wonder if the men understand how important they are in all of this? With women taking over the world and pushing men aside in many arenas of life, we may have done ourselves a dis-service. Strong faith in a home is so incredibly important to the future of our faith and the recovery of dysfunctional marriages. I am glad to hear that there are people out there who hold firm in their faith despite their desire for partnership in this life.
